The way I see it is that I’m not here to help people, I firmly believe that people are more than capable of helping themselves but not everyone knows how. I’m here to show people HOW they can help themselves. Every single person on the planet can help themselves. They just sometimes need the spark so that when the ignition turns, the engine fires up! ;)

On new years eve I decided to go and spend the evening with some friends. We were just going to eat, watch t.v., play games, watch the secret, relax and have a good time. So I was on my way there driving down my usual route which I kind of know like the back of my hand and I came up to a roundabout. It wasn’t raining but it had been and the roads were wet but it wasn’t too cold so there was no ice on the roads.

Now there is one thing that something most of you probably don’t know about me but I have kind of sporty looking car with a 3000 watt sound system which fills up my entire boot (as I love listening to loud music), it as fat alloy wheels and my car is lowered. Anyway, even though it’s not a fast car I do sometimes drive fast and I tend to take corners fast as it handles so well.

So as I was saying, I came up to this roundabout, and as there were no cars around, I decided to put my foot down a little, approach the roundabout with the “racing line” and then step on it. As I did this, the back end of my car decided to swing out even though I know I wasn’t pushing my car to it’s limits…it was a totally unexpected spin! Something which has never happened to me in this car before.

Luckily, when I used to have a company car a few years back, I sometimes used to take it to a gravel car park and practice doing some spins. I know, I know, naughty me!

So, I had some experience of how to handle a car in a spin, as my car started to spin and loose control, something else also popped into my head which was something I heard on some Tony Robbins tapes and it was about when he wanted to be a racing driver. When he was taught how to drive he was taught that one of the most important aspect of racing which is knowing how to bring a car out of a spin. The simple rule, wherever your eyes go, your car will go, so if you focus on the concrete wall surrounding the race track, you will hit that, or if you focus on another car, you will hit that.

So there I was, my car was about to do a 360 when that thought popped into my head. I noticed that just before that point I was actually heading towards some cars waiting to join the roundabout, but then my focus shifted to a clear part of the road and as soon as I did my car started heading in that direction. I’d learned that also to bring a car out of spin that you also opposite lock your steering to the direction your spinning and then as you start to bring your car back to center your turn your steering in the direction of the spin.

So I managed to get my car in complete control again, went around the roundabout with all these people staring at me and then I went on my merry way with a smile on my face and grateful to still be alive! :P

The moral of the story? Well your life will spin out of control when you least expect it, in fact it will spin just as things are going really well, you never know when it will happen or where or what type of spin it will be, you may spin on ice, water, or even just a normal dry road, another car may hit you and you may spin, the only thing you can do it learn some ways to bring yourself out of that spin. You can only truly learn through experience but there is no harm in knowing.

Sat NavThese days, just about everyone has Satellite Navigation in their cars! You either get them with your new car or you can buy a Sat Nav portable unit for about £200. I first got mine about 18 months ago and I personally think it is a wonder of modern technology! It works most of the time but on the odd occasion, if there’s been a new road built, or there is a military base near by, it will tend to stop working unannouced and usually just when I am about 5 mins away from my destination and without a map! :P

The great thing about Sat Nav is that it will find you a new route automatically. On some days there may be an accident that causes a tail-back, or there may be road works, in any case, all you do is take an alternate route to the one shown on the screen of your Sat Nav and then it will automatically calculate a new route for you.

It has some excellent features and is so simple to use; all you do is select which city or town you want to visit, then type in the road name, the then house number or building and voila! You’re good to go! You also have the option to add specific land marks to the on screen map such as camp sites, petrol stations, hotels etc. You are guided by a voice, (which some of my friends say is sexy which I’m still undecided on! :P), that tells you which direction to go in next or which exit to take etc.

In the same way, the Universe is our very own Sat Nav device. It does not judge where you want to go. We are forever empowered to choose our destination; we choose exactly where it is that we want to go! We type in our destination with our thoughts and the Godliverse then proceeds in caculating the best route.

Along the route we have to listen carefully to the instructions given by the sexy Sat Nav voice of the Universe. Any major distractions may end up causing us to go onto a different route but so long as the destination is clear the Universal Sat Nav will find an alternate way. We also have the choice of choosing an alternate route. If you do not like the route that that Universe has chosen for you, you can still begin a new route and the Universe will happily respond with a new route in accordance to your desire.

You will pass various signs along the way, the signs are not always well lit but if you’re observant enough, you will know which signs to look out for that best guide you to you destination, just in case the Universal Sat Nav signal is low. This can happen when the sky is covered with heavy clouds or if the receivers signal gets blocked by tunnels. Just remember there is always light at the end of a tunnel! ;)

There you have it! Whether you have Sat Nav in your car or not; you have your very own personal Universal Sat Nav that leads the way to your chosen destination. All you have to do is switch on the receiver and program in your destination! :)

Engine

Recondition your engine!

Your body = your car. Your brain = your engine

Just as with any car, your engine may need to tuned after months or years of usage. in the same way, your brain, over time can start behaving in an undesired way. The way you drive the car may also affect some parts of the car more than others i.e. they may suffer from wear and tear to a greater degree than other parts. To return it to a “new like” quality engine, it be must be re-tuned and certain parts may need to be replaced, renewed or just cleaned.

To tune your engine you have to get the timing exactly correct and once thats done you engine will begin to function normally once again. In addition to that, a few small parts may need to be replaced. You might need a new air filter, new spark plugs, a new timing belt and a few other bits just to make sure it goes smoothly for another x amount of miles.

The brain is very similar although much more highly sophisticated. Your brain will become accustomed to your daily routine, as a result, if only those parts of the brain are used repetitively, they will suffer from greater wear and tear than the other parts. So if you are only using a few areas or you brain on a consistent basis, recondition your brain, by breaking the normal routine and “drive” in a different manner. The parts of your brain which are over used will then have the time to “re-tune” themselves.

Driving (living) tips

1) Don’t over thrash your engine, you may burn more fuel than you expect and one day find yourself “out of gas”.

2) Keep your engine well lubricated by giving it the correct kind of oil.

3) Make sure there’s plenty of water in your engine, otherwise it may over heat! :P

4) Give your engine the fuel it was designed to have. Don’t put diesel into a petrol engine, otherwise you may end up having a “breakdown”!

5) Listen to your engine carefully every week or so, make sure there are no unusual noises coming from the engine! ;)

indicatorA while back I began writing about one of the book projects that I’m currently working on called: “The Driving ‘Ologies” and how the way we drive tells us much about our personalities, the way we act in certain situations and how we live our lives in general! The book itself is nothing too serious, in fact it’s intention, more than anything is to put a smile your face and make you think: “doh! I sometimes do that” or “I never do that” or “No wonder I keep having accidents!” :D

So here is my first installment for you to ponder.

Not signalling

————–

When you’re at a roundabout or about to take make a turn going in a different direction? Do you always signal, in good time, to let other drivers know what your intentions are? If so, it shows that you are the 3 c’s: Considerate, Consciencious and Cool under pressure!

Signalling early shows that you care for the well being of other road users and also that in life, you will take the time to sit down with people and discuss what decisions you’re contemplating. In a way, it’s to safe guard the feelings of others so they’re aware of why you’re making choices and so you explain to help them understand. It also shows that you respect the opinion of others and allow them to express their own fully without judgement. When faced with pressure, the signal’ers will always be calm, focused and have an air of “coolness” about them.

If you do not signal, first and foremost it is a sign that you’re lazy, selfish and totally inconsiderate, however you do have confidence in yourself which is a good basis for making any change within oneself. Without signalling you will put other people in danger and in the way with regards to life, you will totally disregard others around you and do as you please regardless of who it may hurt! The likely hood is that you will be lazy when it comes to many aspects of your life and wherever you go, you will find some way of taking a short cut!

Change is never easy and can only coincide with a willingness to change. Consciously decide to be a better driver and start by this first stage of someone who consistently signals clearly and in time to notify drivers of your intentions. Any task that you do on a regular basis often leads to a sense of automation. In some cases this is good, but, once in a while, switch on, and through a sense of complete active awareness, make conscious changes. This process will postively affect more than just your driving! :)

If you want to change your life, change the way you drive!

Driving“What are the driving ‘ologies” I hear you ask? Well the driving ‘ologies is a new book I’m working on that states: That the state of your life can very easily be demonstrated by the way you drive your car. (I can hear the moans and groans of confusion already) :P

Well here is an easy and simple demonstration. Here is a set of questions for you:

Do you pay attention to the road? Do you drive unconsciously or consciously? Do you check your mirrors when making turns? Do you speed and are you tense or are you quite chilled?

And here is another set of questions for you: Do you pay attention to your life? Do you live consciously or unconsciously? Are you conscientious of those around you? Does it feel like your life is racing along with life outside like a blur or do you have the time to appreciate the journey?

Notice the similarities? Yes? If not I will be elaborating further on this issue. Next time you drive anywhere, observe yourself or get someone else to observe you and note any similarities in the way you drive and live your life. ;)
