MeditationThere are literally hundreds of types of mediation that one can learn. I started by learning a type of meditation called ‘raja yoga’ But over the years the ‘brand’ of meditation didn’t matter to me too much and so I adopted an open approach and just started experimenting. Whatever felt beneficial to me, I use.

Here are some of the types of meditaion that I do that I have just learned over time, not through reading, but through experimenting and seeing which ones work best for me.

Open Meditation - The term ‘open meditation’ is just something I coined from the top of my head. Open meditation, this is where I sit, relax, and just let my thoughts flow naturally. I don’t try and change my thinking pattern or alter my thinking in any way. I just sit and observe the thoughts that pop into my head. This is useful because it gives me the opportunity to understand where my thoughts are going to. So if I particular person pops into my head, at a later time I may ask myself why that person popped into my head? I also observe the feelings that I feel when a particular thought go through my head. If I observe that a particular event made me feel angry or frustrated, I ask myself what it was about that that made me feel that way? I keep this quite relaxed, I don’t strain and struggle with my thoughts, I just allow them to flow.

On the day that I wrote the post: “There is no spoon”, I said that phrase in my head many times. Later in the evening, I went to the kitchen to have some dinner, I opened the cutlery drawer and there was not a single spoon in there!! :D This was incredibly odd considering the fact that on an average day there are usually 20 or so!! The power of affirmations strikes again!

Disclaimer: All the characters, events, places in this post is are based on a true story!! :-p

How do you deal with death?

A friend passed away two days ago. He died of kidney cancer which spread to his lymph nodes, after which left him with a total of a month left. He had so much in life – uni, friends, family, work…people who loved him and things he loved. At age 24, Mike passed away at Toronto General in pain and high on drugs to ease that pain.

I keep writing in the present tense and then changing it to the past. It’s hard for me to believe he’s gone. How does someone like him just die a slow and painful death? What justice is there in that?

There is no spoon! Now that the title has got your attention, let us begin…say after me; there is no spoon…there is no spoon!

So how many of you have seen the Matrix where the young boy says to Neo; “There is no spoon”?

When I first saw that scene it struck a huge chord with me. At first Uri Geller popped into my head but then I started to think about the way the we are taught to see matter and energy.

I remember being in a Physics lecture at college (this was a very long time ago! No jokes about my age please! :p) and my lecturer telling me that in reality, we do not have the ability to touch anything. It is only through a kind of repulsion do we get that feeling. So in reality, you have never touched a spoon you have only been able to grasp it to the point where the repulsion on both sides provided enough pressure to levitate the spoon!

I just sent this email out to friends and thought I would post it up here too. If you are willing to sponsor me, email me at amit@unlimitedchoice.org.

HA!!! Now that I’ve got your attention I’m here scrounging for Money!!!! :D

Wait…don’t go yet…let me explain! :D

As many of you already know I’ve decided to drag my hefty rear end, off that shape of me from the sofa, and do a charity run! YES YOU DID HEAR CORRECTLY…me doing a charity run!!!! (I can hear the laughs already!) :(

Anyway, I believe I can do it, so I’m asking you to believe in me to! The run is the 3.5m JPMorgan run which is happening on the 6th of July at Battersea park London.

I know it is already for charity but I wanted to do also try and raise some money which I will then donate either to the NSPCC or another childrens charity.

So people, I am asking you to dig deep, please give generously to the Amit fund *cough cough* errrr I mean give generously to a childrens charity!

In addition to that….I invite you all to join me on that day, to come and show your support at the run in Battersea park, which will be in the evening. Maybe After the run, whoever turns up, we can go for a slap up meal and I can put back on the 3.5 stones I’ve lost since last year! MUAHAHAHAHA

Either way, I’m truly looking forward to the sarky responses and am expecting £500 squids worth of donation at least!! :| GRRRRRRRRR If it means I’ll raise more money…I’ll even let you throw stuff and hurl abuse at me during the race! (something I know many of you have been dying to do anyway!)

Yet another essay from Me….apologies for the long email but please do dig deep and send me some good vibez that I do well in this run!!

Loads of Love and best wishes to you all!! x

The voice inside! One thing i’ve noticed in my conversations with many people recently is they are afraid to be positive, to make a powerful statment about themselves or their dreams because they’re afraid to jynx it and that feeling of ‘just incase’!

What damages that positive thought or intention is expectation. When you expect results you start to focus on the results rather than the choice or intention. The outcome is irrelevant in the now. What is important is the process and the focus on working towards that outcome.

I remember being in that same boat many years ago but then I also had a little tiny high pitched voice in the back of my mind telling me no, you are special and you are going to do great things. I dared to believe in that voice and now that voice is loud deep powerful dulcit tone saying, you’re not just going to do great things, you’re going to do amazing and magical things.

I was on the success articles blog and came across this wonderful post on loving affirmations. You can also use these during meditation to create immense inner power. Affirmations are incredibly powerful as they change your vibration and emmanate throughout the universe to create the experience that you are affirming. Enjoy! ;)

Update: I just saw this on Steves Blog on the power of affirmations, whatever you choose to believe, the only way to know is to try for yourself! ;)

UniverseWhen I walk around, on a day to day basis, I always observe people. If I go sit in a cafe, I just watch people carry on with their day to day agenda’s. I find this process of observing gives me inspiration for my book. One thing I’ve noticed though is that the size of the Universe varies from person to person.

Ok, I hear you ask: “What the hell is this dude talking about?” Well it’s quite simple, we all sometimes forget that we are only bacteria on the body of God. (Remember bacteria aren’t always bad, there are some good bacteria in the body too!) But there are some who consider themselves to be at the centre of the Universe. They get incredibly irritated when things don’t go their way. They feel like the Universe was created to serve their every need and when it doesn’t they use it as an excuse to get angry at everyone and everything around them. When something goes wrong they think that God/the Universe/Fate etc is out to get them! It was intentionally done to them!

This bubble becomes like an impenetrable fortress that they feel comforted by, no one can get in unless they want to allow them in!

MeditationUse those valuable extra moments during the day for meditation. Some people have the impression that you have sit there for hours and meditate. No! My most powerful meditation experiences have been at times when they are spontaneous and for just a few seconds or minutes.

Today, I was at a Heathrow airport desparately trying to find a parking space, I saw someone getting ready to leave, they were taking their time! Initiially I got angry but then I said to myself; “STOP” and for just a few seconds, I had some incredibly powerful meditation, and when the car was gone, I calmly parked my car.

Our days can be filled with short moments where we can make wonderful use of the time! If you’re standing in a queue, stuck in a traffic jam, waiting for a file to download, anything along those lines, make use of those brief periods and turn them into moments of powerful spiritual refreshment :)

Destiny(This was the first version that I wrote which has finally been recovered by my webhost so I thought I would put it up again! :) )

What does destiny mean to you? Does it mean that your life is fixed in time? Does it mean that it cannot be changed? Are you destined to be a doctor, a singer, an ornithologist, a lawyer, a teacher? Where and how is it set that you are to become this? Is your destiny just in your mind? Has God set your destiny for you?

Have you ever truly thought about what the concept of Destiny means to you? Or, have you been issued this word from a young age and decided to adopt it into a partial definition of yourself?

I can see a potential problem with this. As romantic as destiny can seem, it is likely that you will become lost and feel like, in some way, that the universe owes you something. Say, for example, that I thought that I was destined to be a pop star! There is a danger that I may interpret that destiny as an absolute result. That no matter what I do or don’t do, I will be a pop star! Great! I obviously have a lot of faith in destiny! But, if I do nothing to be a pop star, is it likely that I would become one? No! Saying that; “i’m destined to be” translates to being owed something by the Universe/God. You can keep repeating that statement but sooner or later you’re going to have to do something about it before opportunities pass you by!

DestinyThis is the second time I’ve written this blog as the first one got lost somewhere in the cyber-ether! I didn’t have a copy of the original so I’ve tried to re-write as much as I can from memory!

What does destiny mean to you? Are you destined for something? Who or what controls your destiny and where is your destiny set? Are you destined to be a lawyer, a doctor, a policeman, a writer, a singer, an actor etc etc etc? Can you change your destiny? Once it’s set can you do anything else?

The idea of destiny can be almost like a romantic fantasy, the idea that you might be destined for greatness or stardom. But herein lies the problem whereby the word destiny creates a sense of being owed by the universe and so the danger is that you think that this greatness will come to you without any effort on your part. You can sit around waiting for your destiny to come to you or you can go out and grab it!

HappyThink back to a time when you were experiencing a particular emotion. Let’s pick a simple one to begin with. Happiness is something that many of us strive for. So go ahead, pick a time, anytime when you were at a point where you were so happy you couldn’t stop smiling! What was the reason for your happiness?

Was it caused by something? Did particular event trigger you to feel happy? Or did you just choose to feel happy? The last question, is one that seems to cause a bit of confusion when I ask people. They say to me; “how can you choose to be happy?”

It seems that we’ve built up this notion that happiness is something that “happens” to us. Why? Why does it have to be that way? This is the case with any emotion apparently. Anger, hate, joy, sadness, love, any emotion that you can think of, people truly believe that it can only occur through external influences. Now let me introduce you to a new concept; “choose to be happy this very instant!” I hear you ask; “but how can I feel happy if I have nothing to feel happy about?” You can! I assure you!

FriendsIt’s funny, the older I get, the more I see my Mum in me (not a bad thing) but I see myself doing things that she does, saying things that she would.. And it’s odd because those are the things that I think she needs to change about herself and now here I am - following in some of her footsteps.

I feel old and washed up, people tell me when they talk to me and they don’t see my face, I sound like I’m mid twenties to early thirties…I need to start acting my age rather than trying to attain/act like something I’m not. I sometimes forget that I am only twenty years old and this is the only life that I have, this is the only chance I have at so many things. The same opportunities may not present themselves again and I’m letting things pass me by so quickly without even thinking about the consequences. I’m too complacent.

Bye Bye Alcohol! The title initially maybe a little misleading, firstly I would like to clarify that I am not an alcoholic or anything, far from it, infact, I’m the opposite, I’m a tea total! I have drunk in the past however. When I was younger my parents owned an off licence and so on the odd occasion the would allow me the odd tipple. That was when I was about 13 or so. After we got rid of the off licence I made a conscious decision not to drink alcohol. Not an easy task when you’re a teenager surrounded by curious teenagers who want to do nothing but drink! But I managed throught my late teens and early twenties to avoid alcohol altogther. It was not until last year that I decided to drink just for a weekend while I went away on a stag weekend with some friends in Amsterdam? Why?

Well firstly it was a personal experiment. I wanted to see if through meditation I could overcome the effects of alcohol (which it did to a certain degree) and second of all I wanted to know what it felt like to be drunk so that I could give an objective opinion to people about alcohol. So I did it, I went away for the weekend with the lads and had loads and loads to drink. I drank plenty and found the alcohol generally had severly adverse effects on my emotions. Some people become extra loving and kind and friendly, but for me, I found myself to be angry and irritable. It taught me a lot about myself and alcohol in general, but, it was just a personal experiement which I decided to try on myself so that I could know of the effects first hand.

The are a few things in particular about Alcohol that worry me greatly;

In the MomentLast night the word NOWNESS popped into my head. I wasn’t even sure if it was a real word or not. I looked it up in the dictionary this morning and all though it has several meanings, the definition that I want to look at is; at the present time.

This seems to me like a good word to use and reminded me of a book I’ve seen in the book shops but never read by Eckhart Tolle called The Power of Now.

When I had that thought last night, I was meditating on what nowness meant to me. Is the present important? Is it any more important than the past or future? What is now since we are in constant motion through the universe? How long is now, a second, a minute an hour? What power is there in the now?

Think deeply about now or the present it is actually a difficult thing to grasp and understand. In Conversations with God God, depending on your own point of view on the books, describes the present as exactly that, a gift, something to cherish and be thankful for. It is literally, a present from God.

So why is nowness so important and how can it bring benefit to oneself?

ReflectionsThis poem was written about me by someone who I consider very dear and special. She is literally my soul mate and she asked me to put this up as a blog. Enjoy! :)

Within his Smile, I see a light, which shines eternal

It spreads warmth across my body and makes me feel content

His tender lips, which call to me, is a gift, which is heaven, sent

And within his eyes, I see his soul forever shining bright

It keeps me always entwined to you, always teaching me wrong and right

Through his hands, I feel purity and strength, an eternal flow of energy running through his veins

Gandhi As Gandhi said; “You must be the change you wish to see in the world.” It is quotes like this from people who have made a difference in this world that has inspired me to be a better person.

Even more so than that, the people who I am in contact with on a daily basis are the ones who inspire me the most. Generally I am quite motivated, but I always seem to meet people who are full of life and have an aim to better themselves or make a difference somehow!

I have had the good fortune to have been surrounded by inspirational people throughout my life. The question I ask myself is, where would I be today if it wasn’t for these people? Would I still be as motivated?

Gadgets GalloreI personally think technology is great, there are so many wonderful things that you can do with it, I love my ipod because I can carry all my favorite music where ever I go. I love blogging because it gives me a chance to exchange ideas with people across the globe. With my computer it’s easy to keep in touch with friends and relatives and of course that love hate relationship that we all have with our cell phones! :)

Albeit that technology can be beneficial but it is not the be-all and end-all of our lives. The question also arises on how long before we hit a metaphorical reality of the Teminator and The Matrix? (or are we already there?) We must not forget that there is so much out there other than technology. Technology can lead to imense stress and so it’s worth remember that there was no T.V. at some point in the past and that people used to live much simpler lives. There are so many other wonderful things in the world that could be experienced other than what is in your bedroom, do not become alergic to nature!

Think about this…

1) What would you do if there was no blogging?
2) How would you communicate with people without phones or cell phones?
3) If there were no T.V. what would you do for entertainment?
4) When was the last time you went out for a walk, just for some fresh air?!
5) If a massive EMP wiped out much of the worlds electrical devices, would you still be here and would life still go on?
6) Would you get bored without technology or would you find other things to do?

(A huge thanks to the following bloggers for the ideas and links - graham, upon us all a little rain must fall, Twiss, and at face value)
