Hey John,

I think the lack of exercise counts for more of it. Most of the young people I work with don't get much pocket money. Nowadays they are given things like mobile phones, TV's etc in place of pocket money.

However as I mentioned in my article we're focussing on the wrong thing. If we were to focus on making activities more fun and inclusive for young people then we would tackle the problem, to a large degree, straight away!

Kids have more pocket-money these days, and they spend a lot of it on sweets and junk food with their mates after school. Combined with lack of exercise, there you have your problem.

Hi Jens,

Thanks for you comment. Acknowledgement of choice is so important in the progression and direction of our lifes. When one becomes aware of it you then get a new found feeling of inner power. It takes time to nuture but it is so important for the overall experience of happiness.

Thanks for you comment! ;-)

Hey Kartikey...How did your run go? Having fun is definitely a high priority for me and I'll naturally choose the activity which I find more fun. Sport for me is definitely more fun than watching TV! ;-)

Hi Dale. I whole heartedly agree. I have nothing against TV as a whole but I do disagree with owning too many or allowing them to take over free time. As you said inactivity becomes inevitable when you succumb to TV as your own form of stimulation and entertainment.

Thanks for your comments! :-)

I think the power is in our choices and that is a freedom we can have fun with. Thats is, if we have the opportunities and education to notice the choices. In my experience if you are not happy then maybe you gotta turn off the tv, ignore the magazines and advertising and turn onto something that brings you happiness.

Dale,
That's happening in India too; a TV for each room/member.

Amit,
I'll sum your pointers as... "have fun". And real fun is not staying indoors and eating and sleeping.
Having said that, I'll go for a run tomorrow.

You mentioned TVs in the bedroom... that has been one of my pet peeves for years. It seems like the TV has become the center of every room in the house. I know one family with 10 TVs... plus a home theater. Inactivity is inevitable when faced with the opportunity for so much passive entertainment.
